Book review - Queenie!
Written by Jacqueline Wilson.
Illustrated by Nick Sharratt.
Queenie is about this girl called Elsie, Elsie lived with her grandmother in a little flat. Elsie’s mother did not live with Elsie or Elsie’s grandmother, for they were poor and she needed to get money for her, Elsie and Elsie’s grandmother. After a while Elsie’s grandmother soon got sick and she had a horrible cough. One morning Elsie’s grandmother went to her early morning work, when Elsie got up she waited and she waited but grandmother still had not came back. Elsie soon looked out the and there was police car so she went done to investigate. After Elsie told the man she had a mother the policeman rang Elsie’s mother. Elsie mother came that afternoon and gave Elsie a big hug Elsie mum stayed at the flat with Elsie. At work Elsie’s grandmother had spewed out blood and then got took to a sanitarium hospital. Elsie’s mum sent Elsie to walk to school by herself the next day, but Elsie snook around near the doctor's and went to play on the playground all day so she wouldn't get seen by an adult. Elsie had very painful limp and when she was walking by the doctor’s on the way, her doctor saw her and said thing’s about how Elsie grandmother was, and about Elsie and her mother getting checked if they had TB as well like her grandmother. So that afternoon Elsie asked her mum they could go to the doctor to checked out, her said “No Elsie we can’t don’t be silly we're fine!” Then sent Elsie to bed. The next morning Elsie awoke and her mum said to her, “I've decided we will go to the doctor's after school for a test.” So after school they had a test and Elsie also had TB and had to go to hospital as well. Now you've had idea about the book. You will have to read the book to know more.
I like the book Queenie because, if you stop reading in the middle of a chapter you can still make lots of predictions, I bet what you predicted will probably come true! I recommend Teacher’s should this read at school, use it for book club and give it to children to read at home. For ages I would recommend 6 year old’s and up.
I would rate this book ten% and one hundred% brilliant. I love reading Jacqueline Wilson books!
